Although the tendency to seek knowledge and information is often equated with intelligence, cognitive ability was associated with less Smartphone use and less time spend using online search engines.

This connection between cognitive ability and Smartphone use may be reflective of the possibility that more knowledgeable individuals are less likely to require online information search when confronted with a problem in everyday life.  Our ability measures included numerical and vocabulary related problems, and these seem likely types of information that one might search for, such as calculating a tip online, or looking up the meaning of a word. The ability to search for information online, on the go, has presumably equated the facts and knowledge available for use, although differences in online search efficiency are likely…While our findings support the idea that highly intelligent individuals are less likely to require this external knowledge,
